22 June 09 - 08:01Cook Forest Pa with the girls !
Spent the weekend up at Cook Forest, we rented a trailor at Forest Ridge campground. Friday and Saturday we had a bunch of rain, but I managed to get out and catch a few Brook trout Sat & Sun mornings. Sunday the rain passed and I took my two girls to the kids fishing area on Tom's Run looking to get them into a few trout as well. My oldest daughter caught 6 Rainbow trout and my three year old caught one, she was more interested in playing in the mud than anything else. I know I say this every time, but I just love to see that look on their faces when they are reeling in a fish. All of the trout were released to be caught aother day by some other lucky kid. I would like to thank the Marienville rod & gun club for their stockings of this area that are in addition to the states stocking. What a great place for the kids, There were about 10 kids fishing there and I think I saw everyone of them catch at least 1 trout. ...

01 June 09 - 13:45Darlington Days Youth Fishing Derby
I took my 5 year old daughter(Cami) out for this annual kids derby which was held this year at the privately owned Darlington Lake in Beaver County, Pa. on 05/30/09 She had trouble catching fish early on and it looked like it was going to be a long day. She managed only one small 4" bluegill and that was it. I dedcided to try our luck at maybe catching a big carp, I figured if she caught one carp that she should win her age group for the biggest fish. I'd had brought some canned corn along in case she wanted to try to catch a carp. I started chumming the area a little bit and it was not long before her line was moving with a running fish(open bail). I helped her set the hook and it was fish on !! She landed several small carp in the 14-15" ranged but was still in 2nd place. Another kid had landed a 15.75" largemouth bass and he was leading the under 6 age group. There were about 15 mins left in the derby when her line began to peel once more from her open spinning reel, this timewhen ...

29 May 09 - 11:24The Girls and the Bluegills
I took my girls out to a private lake that my dad is a memeber of for some bluegill fishing. My girls are 3 & 5 years old and caught about 30 fish each in a few hours. They were using hand tied jigs that I tied myself with waxworms under a float. It wasn't a few seconds after thier bobbers hit the water that they had a bite. It was very steady the whole time we were there. They had a blast, I love seeing that smile and excitement when they catch a fish. Thats what it is all about, I didn't even take my rods with me. I was there for them !!!! They loved getting out with Grandpa "Pappa" too who is in the background of the photos. He taught me all about fishing, now its my turn to pass on that knowledge.

15 May 09 - 11:27Cami,Me & the Backpack Trout

Here is a cool pic of my olderst daughter fishing with me when she was only 2 years old. We were vacationing in Cook Forest state park in PA. This will be a day that I'll never forget. We were hiking on a trail that follows Tom's Run and I happened to have my 4wt fly rod with me just in case. I saw a trout holding in a pool and on the 2nd cast my strike indicator went under and and I had the fish on. The rainbow is by no means a monster, but it was very memorable because my daughter was on my back. I just thought it was a cool photo and wanted to share it.
